BUILDING REVA

Reva is on Product Hunt today. Here is what it does, and what it won't do

Reva goes live on Product Hunt at 12:31 pm IST on 23 October 2026 and stays on the front page for 24 hours. This is what you will find if you open it: what Reva reads, how it checks every figure, where your data lives, and the things we have chosen not to build.

Reva in 27 seconds: one net worth, every figure traced to a statement, the same view on your phone.

If you read Compound, you have seen how we write about money. This piece is about the product itself.

Why we built it

Take Reva's sample household. Its 37 holdings sit in nine accounts. A CAMS statement for mutual funds. Two or three bank apps. A demat account. An EPF passbook. A folder of FD receipts. A flat whose value no app knows.

Adding it up means a spreadsheet. The spreadsheet is always a month behind, and usually only one person in the house can read it.

Reva reads the statements you already get and puts them into one net worth. You can see your own money, or yours and your partner's together.

What Reva reads today

  • Mutual funds: the consolidated statement from CAMS and KFintech. A Detailed statement also gives your yearly return (XIRR) and your capital gains.
  • Bank accounts: PDF statements from 22 banks.
  • Shares and ETFs: the holdings file from Zerodha Console.
  • Everything else: 18 types you add by hand, from property and FDs to EPF, PPF, NPS, gold, cars and art.

Each type of asset has a note on how to value it and where to check the price.

How it checks every figure

Every number Reva shows is printed on your statement, published by AMFI or an exchange, or simple arithmetic on those. Before a mutual fund statement is saved, Reva checks that:

  • each fund's units × NAV equals the value printed on the statement
  • the funds add up to the statement's grand total, to the paisa
  • opening units plus purchases minus sales equal the closing units

For a bank statement, every row has to follow the printed running balance. The counts and totals have to match the bank's own summary.

If any check fails, Reva does not save the statement. It tells you which check failed. Where a figure is missing, Reva shows "—" and leaves it out of totals. It does not fill in a typical value.

Where your data lives

  • Your statement and its password are read in your browser. The PDF does not leave your device.
  • What Reva extracts is stored in Mumbai and encrypted with a separate key for each household.
  • Every read and write is logged, and you can remove a statement and everything it added.
  • Hey Reva, the assistant, sends your question and the figures it needs to an AI model provider in the United States. It answers from your data and cites a source for every number.

What Reva won't do

  • It cannot move money, place trades or change anything at your bank or broker. It only reads.
  • It does not tell you to buy, sell or hold anything. Reva is not a SEBI-registered investment adviser.
  • Tax planning is switched off. SEBI treats tax planning that leads to investing as investment advice. Reva still reports capital gains on sales you have already made, for you and your CA.

Who else can see it

You choose. A partner can see and edit everything. A family member, your CA or your adviser can get read-only access to the parts their role needs. A CA can download a Schedule AL draft, a capital gains statement and a Schedule 112A draft.

What comes next

Depository statements from NSDL and CDSL, so shares held with any broker can be added. More brokers after that. Account Aggregator, for automatic updates, comes later.

SEBI rewrote the PMS rulebook. For a ₹50 lakh client, five things change

The Portfolio Managers Regulations, 2026 replace the 2020 rules from 1 April 2027. Most of what a PMS client signs up to stays the same, including the ₹50 lakh minimum. Five things change: old accounts below ₹50 lakh lose their exemption, IPOs and foreign securities are written in, and the disclosure document gets stricter deadlines.

Gold bonds cashed in early are now taxed. What October's two RBI windows show

From 1 April 2026, a sovereign gold bond is tax-free on redemption only if the same individual subscribed at issue and held it to maturity. This month RBI paid ₹14,725 a unit on early redemption of one 2019 series, nearly four times the ₹3,738 issue price, and that gain is now taxed at 13% to 14.95%.
