How much difference does a step-up SIP make?

Lesson 9 of 28 · Raise your SIP every year · 3 min read · Reviewed 15 Oct 2026

Quick answer

A step-up SIP rises by a fixed share every year, usually in line with your pay. ₹10,000 a month for 20 years at 12% grows to about ₹1 crore. Raising it 10% each year takes it to about ₹2 crore.

Most people start a SIP and never change the amount, while their salary rises every year.

A step-up raises the SIP by a set percentage each year. Most fund houses and apps let you set this once, so it happens on its own.

Key idea: Match the step-up to your pay rise. If your salary rises 8%, a 10% step-up still leaves room to spend more.
